GTPD Library Student Ambassador
The Georgia Tech Police Department and Library is seeking enthusiastic and reliable Student Ambassadors to be the welcoming face of the library and a valuable resource for the campus community. This role involves providing guidance, assistance, and a positive first impression to students, visitors, and Georgia Tech community members.
Key Responsibilities:
• Greet and welcome students, visitors, and the Georgia Tech community at the library entrance.
• Provide directional assistance and general information about library services and resources.
• Assist individuals who may be lost or need help navigating the library.
• Maintain a vigilant presence, identify and report any suspicious behavior to a supervisor promptly.
Student Expectations:
• Punctuality & Reliability: Adhere to scheduled shifts, arriving on time and completing the full shift. Communicate potential scheduling conflicts or the need for time off to the supervisor at least 24 hours in advance. Prioritize academic commitments, especially during exam periods, and discuss these needs with the supervisor. Notify the supervisor immediately regarding lateness, early departure, or absence.
• Engagement & Professionalism: Remain present and engaged during work. Use of personal technology while on duty will be discussed and expectations set by the supervisor. Maintain a professional demeanor and appearance while representing the Georgia Tech Police Department (GTPD). Professional behavior and appropriate attire are expected when interacting with employees, prospective employees, visitors, and the Georgia Tech community.
• Knowledge & Training: Participate in a tour of the Georgia Tech Library to become familiar with its spaces and operational procedures. Complete a brief training on emergency response and evacuation plans, and be prepared to assist and guide others to safety in an emergency.
• Confidentiality & Compliance: Practice confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information encountered during the role, seeking guidance from the supervisor when unsure. Comply with the Georgia Tech Student Code of Conduct, as well as all Georgia Tech and GTPD rules and policies, including the 20-hour per week limit on student employment.
• Workspace & Initiative: Maintain a clean and organized workspace. Fulfill all assigned duties and responsibilities, asking questions, raising concerns, and offering suggestions to the supervisor as needed.
STUDENT RESEARCH ASSISTANT (AI, VR & BACKEND SYSTEMS)
We are developing an immersive Unity-based Virtual Reality Learning Environment (ViRLE) focused on sustainable construction practices, specifically improving worker safety, physical health, productivity, and task performance through the use of wearable robots (exoskeletons).
The project is centered on Unity VR development, with integrated:
• Multi-sensor data (IMU, EMG, EEG, eye tracking)
• Backend systems and data pipelines
• AI-driven analytics and feedback
to support realistic simulation and data-informed learning in construction engineering education.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a Student Research Assistant with strong Unity development skills who can take an active role in building and extending Unity-based VR environments.
The position requires hands-on work in Unity (scene development, interaction logic, avatar control, data integration), alongside AI and backend components that support sensor-driven analytics and feedback within the VR environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and maintain Unity-based VR environments for construction task simulation
• Implement interaction logic, scene workflows, and avatar behavior in Unity
• Integrate sensor data streams (IMU, EMG, EEG, eye tracking) into Unity
• Support AI-driven analytics and feedback within Unity applications
• Assist with backend system development, including data pipelines and structured data storage
• Develop in-VR data visualizations for ergonomic risk and task performance
• Support motion tracking, avatar mapping, and real-time interaction workflows
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary research team focused on construction practice improvement
• Document Unity workflows, system architecture, and integration processes
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Currently pursuing a degree in computer science or a related field.
• Strong background in AI, machine learning, or data analytics
• Strong experience with Unity (C#, scene management, prefabs, animation, UI)
• Familiarity with sensor data processing (IMU, EMG, EEG preferred)
• Ability to work independently on technically complex research tasks
• Proven experience in human-computer interaction research.
• Strong programming skills, especially in the integration of voice commands.
